OUR STORY
L'église Lumière des Nations church is located in the borough of Fleurimont and the eastend of the city of Sherbrooke which has a population of approximately 157.751 inhabitants. Some years ago, it pleased the Lord to call, all the way from Switzerland, Matthieu Anku of Togolese descent and his Swiss spouse, to come to the Montreal region. The Protestant Reformed Church of Switzerland, where Matthieu was pastor, asked him to stay on and continue the Work among them but Matthieu had received from the Lord a certainty and conviction that he was to come and settle in Canada and more particularly in Quebec, so as to work as a mobilize, and local church planter. So, with his wife and children, they decided to take the step of obedience and the promise to be used as a mobilizer firmed up in the exercise of pastoral ministry in the church in LaPrairie. In the following years, Matthieu prayed for the planting of a local church, if at all possible in a city of 15 to 20 thousand people, which was ‘’virgin’’ territory. The Lord, in His greatness, led Matthieu and his wife to settle in the city of Fleurimont in January 2001. , and was received like a prince by the mayor of Fleurimont (Mr. Francis Gagnon), and after having read attentively the letter of recommendation given h to Matthieu with great enthusiasm and joy. He told him that the city had 17,000 inhabitants and that there was no evangelical church, Fleurimont thus being new territory. After describing the city, the mayor handed Matthieu the map of the city and that of the surrounding region, certainly an insignificant gesture, which proves to be a prophetic sign of some importance. Following this first encouraging step, Matthieu persevered in prayer and fasting to understand which way to go. It is then that the Lord put on his heart the name by which the congregation should be called, according to the word given to Abraham in Genesis 12 : 1-3 ‘’Light of the Nations’’. Matthieu invited some friends to come from Zurich along with a team in order to pray for Fleurimont and the surrounding area. It was on May 20th, 2001 that the first celebration was held with some friends from Montreal, some 18 persons. It was in a little hall in Fleurimont that the Lord promised that very day that this church Lumière des Nations, would be a church of families and of multiple generations. (Isaiah 61:9) It was on September 2nd, 2001 that the opening ceremony finally took place and from where the congregation took flight.
